Conner Halberg and Conor East each finished first in two races for the Hope College men's swimming and diving team during a 171.5-128.5 dual meet loss to Calvin University on Saturday at the Holland Aquatic Center.
It was a matchup of nationally-ranked teams: Hope 16th and Calvin 14th.
Halberg, pictured left, swept the long-distance freestyle events. The freshman from Novi (Northville HS) clocked in at 10.04.14 in the 1000-yard freestyle and 4:49.96 in the 500-yard freestyle.
East, a sophomore of Farmington Hills, Michigan (North Farmington), pictured right, took first in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:57.80 and the 200-yard IM at 2:00.54.
The Flying Dutchmen ended the night with six wins and six runner-up finishes.
Junior Ted Lockett of Cincinnati, Ohio (St. Xavier) finished first in the 100-yard breaststroke at 1:00.65.
Additional runner-up finishes for Hope included: freshman Dallas Fisher of Highland (Detroit Catholic Central) in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 53.09 seconds; and freshman Joel Cummins of Osceola, Indiana (Penn) in the 50-yard freestyle clocking in at 21.67 seconds
In diving, Kamaron Wilcox took first in the three-meter dive with 296.55 points. The senior of Grand Rapids (Forest Hills Central) also took second in the one-meter board with 268.10 points.
The Flying Dutchmen's next meet is on Friday, November 5 at Kalamazoo Quad at 6 p.m.
