Men's Swimmers Post Five Runner-Up Efforts at MIAA Relays

Five Hope College men's swimming relays clocked second-place performances to lead the Flying Dutchmen at the non-scoring MIAA Relays on Friday at Calvin University.

Hope finished runner-up in both breaststroke relays.

In the 100-yard event, sophomore Christian Dunaitis (Commerce Township, Michigan / Detroit Catholic Central), freshman Kellen Townsend (West Olive, Michigan / West Ottawa), junior Reilly LaGrand (Grand Rapids, Michigan / Catholic Central) and junior CJ Gillengerten (Haslett, Michigan, Haslett) posted a time of 50.64 seconds.

In the 200-yard event, LaGrand, Gillengerten, Dunaitis and senior Jack Muller (Queensland, Australia / Meridian State) went 1:50.06.

The Flying Dutchmen's 200 medley relay of sophomore Dallas Fisher (Highland, Michigan / Detroit Catholic Central), Gillengerten, junior Ben Catton (Holland, Michigan / Holland Christian) and sophomore Alex Boersema (Holland, Michigan / West Ottawa) recorded a second-place swim of 1:50.06.

The 400 medley relay of Fisher, senior Conor East Farmington Hills, Michigan / North Farmington), junior Jake Peterson (San Antonio, Texas / Churchill) and Muller clocked a runner-up time of 3:42.08.

The 1,500-yard 3x500 freestyle relay touched the wall in second place with sophomore Conner Halberg (Novi, Michigan / Northville), senior Brant Assink (Holland, Michigan / Holland Christian) and senior Bailey Smith (Battle Creek, Michigan / Lakeview) finishing in 15:05.14.

Hope returns to Calvin on Saturday, Oct. 22, at 11 a.m. for the "Be Better; Invite" that also features the University of Michigan and Davenport University.
