Two More Top 10 All-Time Mens Swims Caps Final Day at Kenyon Invite

Two more of the fastest men's swims in Hope College history highlighted a successful close for the 14th-ranked Flying Dutchmen at the Kenyon College Total Performance Invitational on Saturday in Gambier, Ohio.

Junior CJ Gillengerten (Haslett, Michigan / Haslett) and freshman Bishop Carl (Cincinnati, Ohio / Sycamore) delivered two of many highlights during the seven-team meet.

Hope placed fourth with 849.5 points, finishing behind second-ranked Kenyon (2,581), NCAA Division II West Chester University, Pa. (1,448.5) and ninth-ranked Carnegie Mellon University, Pa. (1,352).

Gillengerten is now ranked sixth in the 200-yard breaststroke after a 2:05.81 during preliminaries. Gillengerten finished 18th after a time of 2:06.97 during the 'B' final. Junior Reilly LaGrand (Grand Rapids, Michigan / Catholic Central) was 20th at 2:08.49.

In the 'A' final, Hope's Christian Dunaitis (Commerce Township, Michigan / Detroit Catholic Central) and senior Ted Lockett (Mason, Ohio / St. Xavier) finished eighth and ninth, respectively, with swims of 2:06.07 and 2:06.18.

In the 200 butterfly, Carl is now ranked ninth after a swim of 1:55.27 in the 'B' final. He was followed by teammates Jake Peterson (San Antonio, Texas / Churchill) and JT Nissen (Spring, Texas / Klein Collins) in 19th and 20th, respectively, at 1:55.80 and 1:55.95.

Junior Conor East (Farmington Hills, Michigan / North Farmington) qualified for the 'A' Final and placed 10th at 1:51.94.

The Flying Dutchmen clocked a fifth-place 400 freestyle relay as sophomore Colin Kalkman (Zeeland, Michigan / Holland Christian), sophomore Connor Halberg (Novi, Michigan / Northville), sophomore Alex Boersema (Holland, Michigan / West Ottawa) and junior Ben Catton (Holland, Michigan / Holland Christian) touched the wall at 3:03.04.

Catton posted the sixth-fastest 100 freestyle with a swim of 45.53 in the 'A' Final.

Kalkman took seventh in the 200 backstroke 'A' Final by clocking a time of 1:49.91.

Halberg finished 17th in the 1,650 freestyle with a swim of 16:32.63.

Hope's next meet is on Saturday, Jan. 14, at the Michigan-Illinois Quad hosted by Kalamazoo College.
