A furious fourth-quarter comeback fell short for the Hope College men's lacrosse team as Oberlin College held on for a 12-11 victory on Saturday at the University of Michigan Lacrosse Stadium.
The Flying Dutchmen (2-1) scored four of the game's final five goals but could not get an equalizer after junior Alex Goodall pulled them within a goal.
Senior Zach Wiggins (Kalamazoo, Michigan / Mattawan) scored three times to lead Hope.
Freshman Sam Bowen (Grand Rapids, Michigan / Forest Hills Eastern), pictured, contributed five points on two goals and three assists.
Goodall (Clarkston, Michigan / Lutheran Northwest) finished with two goals.
Oberlin (2-1) grabbed the lead for good at 8-5 by scoring five consecutive goals during a 6 1/2-minute span late in the second quarter.
Niko Mahreas and Michael Muldoon topped Oberlin with three goals apiece.
Hope's next game is Tuesday, March 8, at 7 p.m. against Illinois Tech at Van Andel Soccer Stadium.
