No. 20 Men's Swim/Dive Posts Four Top-5 Performances at Kenyon Invite

Diver Ewan Tiongson recorded a runner-up effort, and swimmers Ben Catton and Christian Dunaitis both posted fourth-place times on Friday to lead the Hope College men's swimming and diving team at the Total Performance Invite hosted by Kenyon College (Ohio).

Through two days of competition, the 20th-ranked Flying Dutchmen sit in fifth place at the three-day meet with 617 points. Second-ranked Kenyon leads the eight-team event with 1,240.5 points.

The final day of the meet starts on Saturday, Nov. 18, at 10:30 a.m. with prelims and 5:30 p.m. with finals.

On Friday, Tiongson (Portage, Michigan / Portage Northern HS) posted a second-place, 3-meter diving total of 530.5 points. Joey Gillengerten (East Lansing, Michigan / Haslett) finished behind his fellow senior in third with 398.70 points.


Catton, a senior from Holland, Michigan (Holland Christian), touched the wall in the 100-yard butterfly with a fourth-place time of 49.15 seconds.


Dunaitis, a junior from Commerce Township, Michigan (Detroit Catholic Central) recorded a fourth-place 100 breaststroke of 55.99 seconds.


In the 200 medley relay, Hope finished sixth. Junior Colin Kalkman (Zeeland, Michigan / Holland Christian), Catton and junior Joel Cummins (Osceola, Indiana / Penn) posted a sixth-place swim of 1:30.66.


In the 100 backstroke, Kalkman recorded a seventh-place time of 49.57 seconds.

In the 400 individual medley, three Hope swimmers qualified for the 'B' final: freshman Alex Pierce (Oswego, Illinois / Oswego) in 12th at 4:05.51, junior Dallas Fisher (Highland, Michigan / Detroit Catholic Central) in 17th at 4:09.73 and sophomore Bishop Carl (Cincinnati, Ohio / Sycamore) in 18th at 4:09.85.

In the 200 freestyle, two Flying Dutchmen made the 'B' final: sophomore Henry Booker (Hudsonville, Michigan / Hudsonville) in 13th at 1:43.35 and junior Alex Boersema (Holland, Michigan / West Ottawa) in 19th at 1:44.07.

In the 100 butterfly, freshman Graham Eisenmann (Ozark, Montana / Ozark) was 19th at 51.37.

On Thursday, Hope's top performance came in the 200 freestyle relay. Cummins, Catton, Kalkman and Eisenmann clocked a fifth-place swim of 1:22.87.

In the 400 medley relay, Kalkman, Dunaitis, Catton and Eisenmann placed eighth with a time of 3:21.44.

In the 200 individual medley, Kalkman placed 10th after touching the wall at 1:54.27.

In the 50 free, Eisenmann was 19th at 21.16.

After Kenyon, No. 11 Carnegie Mellon (Pa.) is in second place with 1,015.5 points. NCAA Division II West Chester (Pa.) is third with 1,010.5 points and followed by No. 12 Case Western Reserve (Ohio) with 685, Hope, No. 18 SUNY-Geneseo with 361.5, John Carroll (Ohio) with 323 and NAIA Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) with 222.
