Six Men's Swimmers, One Men's Diver Claim All-MIAA Honors

Seven members of the Hope College men's swimming and diving team have claimed All-MIAA honors for the 2022-23 season.

Swimmers Ben Catton, Christian Dunaitis, Conor East, Dallas Fisher, Colin Kalkman, Bailey Smith, and diver Ewan Tiongson represent the Flying Dutchmen.

This is the fourth All-MIAA distinction for Smith and the third All-MIAA recognition for Catton, and East. It is the second All-MIAA distinction for Dunaitis and Kalkman and the first for Fisher and Tiongson.

Smith (Battle Creek, Michigan / Lakeview HS) claimed two MIAA titles during last week's league meet at Calvin University, where Hope finished runner-up. The senior business major won the 500-yard freestyle and the 1,650 freestyle and finished fourth in the 200 freestyle. It was Smith's third MIAA championship in the 1,650 and his first in the 500.

Catton (Holland, Michigan / Holland Christian) repeated as MIAA champion in the 100 butterfly. The junior business and economics major also took second place in the 100 backstroke and seventh in the 200 backstroke.

East (Farmington Hills, Michigan / North Farmington) qualified for three 'A' finals at the MIAA Championships. The junior business major placed third in the 200 butterfly, fourth in the 400 individual medley, and fifth in the 200 IM.

Dunaitis (Commerce Township, Detroit Catholic Central) recorded runner-up swims in two events at the MIAA Championships. The sophomore business major took second in the 100 and 200 breaststroke.

Kalkman (Zeeland, Michigan / Holland Christian) earned his second MIAA title in a row in the 200 backstroke. The sophomore biology major also finished third in the 100 backstroke and fourth in the 200 individual medley.

Fisher (Highland, Michigan / Detroit Catholic) swam in three 'A' finals at the MIAA Championships. The sophomore electrical engineering major clocked runner-up performances in 200 and 400 individual medley and a third-place effort in the 200 backstroke.

Tiongson (Portage, Michigan / Portage Northern) took second in 3-meter diving at the MIAA Championships. The junior also posted a third-place total in the 1-meter diving.
