No. 19 Men's Swim/Dive Wins Four Events vs. No. 3 Chicago

The 19th-ranked Hope College men's swimming and diving team finished first in four events during a 189-93 loss to the third-ranked University of Chicago on Saturday at the Holland Aquatic Center.

Swimmers Ben Catton and Alex Pierce took first in the 100-yard freestyle and 1,650 freestyle, respectively.

Diver Joey Gillengerten led 1-2 uncontested finishes on the 1-meter and 3-meter boards.

Catton (Holland, Michigan / Holland Christian HS) clocked a 100 free time of 47.25 seconds. Junior Dallas Fisher (Highland, Michigan / Detroit Catholic Central) took third at 48.29.

Pierce (Oswego, Illinois / Oswego) won the 1,650 free with his best time of the season at 16:37.90. Freshman Connor Watkins (Buckeye, Arizona / Horizon) placed second at 16:52.88.

On the 1-meter board, Gillengerten (East Lansing, Michigan / Haslett) recorded a first-place total of 230.50 points. Junior Ewan Tiongson (Portage, Michigan / Portage Northern) finished runner-up with 197.15 points.

Hope clocked a second-place effort in one more event and third-place ties in two more.

In the 200 medley relay, junior Colin Kalkman (Zeeland, Michigan / Holland Christian), freshman Christian Hoeksema (Holland, Michigan / Holland Christian), Catton and senior Conor East (Farmington Hills, Michigan / North Farmington) posted a runner-up swim of 1:35.46.

In the 200 breaststroke, CJ Gillengerten (Haslett, Michigan / Haslett) recorded a third-place time of 2:15.51.

In the 50 freestyle, senior Braeden Pfeil (Holt, Michigan / Holt) took third with a time of 22.54 points.

Hope's next meet is the regular-season finale on Saturday, Feb. 3, at 1 p.m. against ninth-ranked Calvin University at the Holland Aquatic Center.
