The 19th-ranked Hope College men's swimming and diving team dove right through the competition in the second home meet of the season on Friday.Â
The Flying Dutchmen defeated Alma College, 114-78, at the Holland Aquatic Center to help start the college's One Big Weekend homecoming and family celebrations.
Hope took first in eight events, with three events having the Orange and Blue finish 1-2-3.Â
In the 100-yard butterfly, sophomore Graham Eisenmann (Ozark, Missouri / Ozark HS) grabbed the top spot with a season-best time of 51.97. He followed in second and third place by senior Dallas Fisher (Highland, Michigan / Detroit Catholic Central) and freshman Joe Engle (Holland, Michigan / West Ottawa), respectively. Fisher finished at 52.46. Engle clocked in at 54.32.Â
Hope also nabbed finishing spots 4-7 in the 100 fly:
- Freshman Everett Cox (Sugar Land, Texas / Logos Prep), fourth place; 54.49
- Senior Alex Boersema (Holland, Michigan / West Ottawa), fifth place; 55.20
- Sophomore Andrew Repp (Plymouth, Michigan / Salem), sixth place; 55.90
- Senior Christian Dunaitis (Commerce Township, Michigan / Detroit Catholic Central), seventh place, 56.37
The 200 free saw another Hope top three sweep. Cox earned the top spot with a season-best time of 1:45:69. Sophomore Josh Bordovsky (Herndon, Virginia / South Lakes) was runner-up after touching the wall at 1:45:80. Sophomore Nick Suranyi (Novi, Michigan / Novi) grabbed third place with a time of 1:51:39.Â
In the 1,000 free, Repp recorded a winning and season-best time of 10:21:01. Sophomore Erik Keisling (DeWitt, Michigan / DeWitt) finished second at 10:29:63. Freshman Lee Assink (Holland, Michigan / Holland Christian) was third at 11:05:81.Â
The 200 medley relay of Fisher, Eisenmann, senior Christian Hoeksema (Holland, Michigan / Holland Christian), and senior Conner Halberg (Novi, Michigan / Northville) took home first place with a time of 1:37:13.Â
Hope recorded three of the top four spots in the 200 individual medley. Freshman Luke Wyrick (Glen Ellyn, Illinois / Glenbard West) clocked a first-place and season-best time of 2:01:22. Sophomore John McHugh (Brighton, Michigan / Brighton) came in second at 2:03:75, and freshman Aaron Thomas (DeWitt, Michigan / DeWitt) was third at 2:18:22.Â
Junior Samuel Albrecht (Jenison, Michigan / Jenison) nabbed first place in the 100 backstroke with a time of 54.88.Â
Senior Cooper Osgood (Saline, Michigan / Saline) clocked a first place time in the 100 freestyle, finishing at 48.88.Â
In the 3-meter dive, junior Justin Romero (Detroit, Michigan / Woodhaven) took first with 186.60 points. Sophomore Max Reed (Fairfield, Ohio / Fairfield) was second with 117.75.Â
The 50 freestyle had senior Joel Cummins (Osceola, Indiana / Penn) as Hope's first finisher at 21.88 for second place. Osgood and Hoeksema finished second and third, respectively, Osgood at 22.00 and Hoeksema at 22.31.Â
Hope's next meet is the West Michigan Invite on Friday-Saturday, Nov. 1-2, which includes Davenport University, Kalamazoo College, The University of Olivet, and Wabash College (Indiana). The Flying Dutchmen will host the first day at the Holland Aquatic Center, beginning at 5:30 p.m. The final day at Kalamazoo will feature two sessions, with the first one at 11 a.m.
