No. 19 Men's Swim/Dive Finishes Eighth at Competitive D3Shootout

The Hope College men's swimming and diving team, ranked 19th in the preseason CSCAA Top 25 poll, placed eighth at the D3 Shootout, which was held at the University of Chicago.

The second-ranked Maroons won the event with 689 points, while No. 15 Pomona-Pitzer (597.5 points) and No. 9 Washington University St. Louis (571 points) finished second and third, respectively.

Hope tallied 463 points over the two-day event as just 13 points separated the schools in fourth through eighth in the final standings.

The format of the D3 Shootout allows each of the 10 competing teams to bring eight swimmers plus a diver. Teams entered two swimmers in each event – one in an A flight and the other in a B flight.

Freshman Everett Cox (Sugar Land, Texas / Logos Prep) posted the top finish for Hope in the final session, placing third in the B final of the 500 freestyle with a season-best time of 4:40.31. Freshman Joe Engle (Holland, Michigan / West Ottawa) also swam a season-best in the 500 free, finishing fifth in the A final after touching the wall in 4:38.65.

In the 200 individual medley, sophomore Josh Bordovsky (Herndon, Virginia / South Lakes) placed fourth in the B final with a time of 1:59.61.

Sophomore Graham Eisenmann (Ozark, Missouri / Ozark) recorded a pair of fifth-place showings in his two individual events on Saturday.

In the 100 butterfly, Eisenmann placed fifth in the B final with a season-best mark of 50.11. He added a fifth-place finish in the A final of the 100 freestyle, recording a time of 46.29.

Hope will take a week off before traveling to Gambier, Ohio, for the Total Performance Invitational, hosted by top-ranked Kenyon College. The meet will take place on Thursday-Saturday, Nov. 21-23, with prelims and finals each day.
