No. 18-Ranked Men's Swim/Dive Downs Davenport (RV) and Olivet on Senior Day

The 18th-ranked Hope College men's swimming and diving team earned a pair of Senior Day victories on Friday at the Holland Aquatic Center.

The Flying Dutchmen downed Davenport University, 170-99, and The University of Olivet, 234-14, during their double dual. Davenport received votes in this week's College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association NCAA Division II poll and finished just outside the Top 25.

Senior Dallas Fisher (Highland, Michigan / Detroit Catholic Central HS) led Hope with three winning swims.

Fisher took first in the 100-yard backstroke at 52.78 seconds, the 200 backstroke at 1:57.83 and the 200 individual medley at 1:59.44.

In the 100 backstroke, sophomore John McHugh (Brighton, Michigan / Brighton) touched the wall second after Fisher at 53.82.

Hope finished in eight more events, including multiple victories for two more swimmers.

Senior Conner Halberg (Novi, Michigan / Northville) finished first in the 200 freestyle at 1:43.98 and the 500 freestyle at 4:45.97.

Sophomore Graham Eisenmann (Ozark, Missouri / Ozark) won the 50 freestyle in 20.99 seconds and the 100 freestyle in 46.94.

In the 50 free, sophomore Josh Bordovsky (Herdon, Virginia / South Lakes) finished runner-up at 21.53. Senior Joel Cummins (Osceola, Indiana / Penn) placed third at 21.61. Senior Cooper Osgood (Saline, Michigan / Saline) was fourth at 22.20.

In the 100 free, Hope swept the top five spots. Senior Colin Kalkman (Zeeland, Michigan / Holland Christian) clocked a second-place swim of 46.94 seconds. Bordovsky took third at 47.21. Sophomore Christian Hoeksema (Holland, Michigan / Holland Christian) finished fourth at 48.54. Junior Henry Booker (Hudsonville, Michigan / Hudsonville) was fifth at 48.82.

In the 200 freestyle, freshman Joe Engle (Holland, Michigan / West Ottawa) posted a runner-up 200 freestyle of 1:43.98. Freshman Everett Cox (Sugar Land, Texas / Logos Prep) finished third at 1:45.65. Booker was fourth at 1:45.68.

In the 500 freestyle, Engle touched the wall second at 4:46.42. Cox was fourth at 3:52.71.

Sophomore Nick Suranyi (Novi, Michigan / Novi) won the 200 butterfly in 1:56.18 and was runner-up in the 100 butterfly at 52.41.

Freshman Luke Newcomb (Brighton, Michigan / Brighton) finished first in the 100 breaststroke at 57.64 seconds.


Hope opened the meet as Bordovsky, Newcomb, Kalkman and Eisenmann recorded a winning 200 medley relay time of 1:33.27.

In the meet's final event, the Flying Dutchmen won the 200 freestyle relay. Kalkman, Halberg, Bordovsky and Eisenmann touched the wall at 1:24.65.

Hope's next meet is Saturday, Jan. 25, at 1 p.m. at Kalamazoo College vs. Kalamazoo and Olivet.
