Men's and Women's Swim/Dive Focused on MIAA Championships After Final Dual Meet

The Hope College women's and men's swimming and diving teams wrapped up the dual meet portion of the season on Friday with a matchup of nationally-ranked teams at Calvin University.

The 12th-ranked Flying Dutch fell to the 19th-ranked Knights, 188.5-100.5, in the women's meet. The 25th-ranked Flying Dutchmen lost to seventh-ranked Calvin, 177-109.

Both Hope teams finish with a 5-2 dual meet record. The results do not count toward determining this season's MIAA champion. The results of the MIAA Championships on Wednesday-Saturday, Feb. 19-22, at Calvin will.

In the women's meet, the Flying Dutch took first in three events.

In the 100-yard freestyle, junior Bella Turner (Chelsea, Michigan / Chelsea HS) clocked a winning time of 51.98 seconds

In the 200-yard breaststroke, junior Katie Hermann (Canton, Michigan / Mercy) recorded a first-place swim of 2:27.34. Hermann also took second in the 100 backstroke at 58.68.

In 1-meter diving, sophomore Laura Zupancic (Fort Collins, Colorado / Liberty Common) posted a winning total of 245.17 points. Zupancic was runner-up in 3-meter diving with a score of 223.70 points.

Hope finished second in five more events.

The Flying Dutchmen placed first in three events.

The 400-yard freestyle relay of junior Dallas Fisher (Highland, Michigan / Detroit Catholic Central), freshman Joe Engle (Holland, Michigan / West Ottawa), freshman Everett Cox (Sugar Land, Texas / Logos Prep) and junior Henry Booker (Hudsonville, Michigan / Hudsonville) won with a swim of 3:09.78.

Sophomore Graham Eisenmann (Ozark, Missouri / Ozark) clocked the top times in the 200 freestyle at 1:41.79 and the 100 butterfly at 1:41.79.

Eisenmann led a 1-2 finish in the 100 butterfly, with senior Joel Cummins (Osceola, Indiana / Penn) taking second at 52.22.

Hope finished runner-up in five more swimming events and one 1-diving event.
