Men's 400 Medley Relay Swims to All-America Honors at Day 1 of NCAA Championships

The 17th-ranked Hope College men's swimming and diving team opened the NCAA Division III Championships with an All-America performance in the 400-yard medley relay on Wednesday in Greensboro, North Carolina.

With two first-time national qualifiers, the Flying Dutchmen rose two spots after prelims at the Greensboro Aquatic Center to place 13th in the nation.

Senior Colin Kalkman (Zeeland, Michigan / Holland Christian HS), freshman Luke Newcomb (Brighton, Michigan / Brighton), sophomore Graham Eisenmann (Ozark, Missouri / Ozark) and freshman Josh Bordovsky (Herndon, Virginia / South Lakes) clocked a time of 3 minutes, 16.46 seconds during the consolation final.

It is the 11th time the Flying Dutchmen have earned All-America honors in the event and the second season in a row they have claimed All-America Second Team distinction.

Hope also competed in two individual events on Wednesday.

In the 200 individual medley, Bordovsky finished 32nd during prelims with a swim of 1:50.09.

In the 50 freestyle, Newcomb placed 49th during prelims with a personal-best swim of 21.74 seconds.

The Flying Dutchmen are in 28th place after Day 1 with eight points.

Denison University (Ohio) leads the field with 115 points. Carnegie Mellon University (Pennsylvania) and Centre College (Kentucky) are tied for second with 60 points.

Day 2 of the national meet begins on Thursday, March 20, at 10 a.m. with prelims. Finals start at 6 p.m. Watch both sessions on ncaa.com.
