Swimmer Daniel Keith Sets School Record At Wheaton invitational

Hope College swimmer Daniel Keith broke the 200-yard individual medley school record during the Wheaton College (Illinois) Invitational this weekend.

The sophomore from Saline, Michigan (Saline HS) clocked a time of 1 minute, 52.42 seconds during Friday's preliminaries to surpass the previous mark of 1:52.51 that teammate Daniel Clyde set last season.

Keith, pictured, finished third in the championship final with a swim of 1:54.25.

Keith also was third in the 100 freestyle at 47.05 seconds.

Clyde recorded the second-fastest, 400 individual medley swim in the championship final at 4:08.09. He was sixth in the 200 breaststroke at 2:12.02 and eighth in the 200 individual medley at 1:57.44.

Senior Trevor Gras of Zeeland, Michigan (Zeeland East) clocked a seventh-place time in the 200 backstroke final of 2:02.25.

Junior Skylar De La Torre finished seventh in the 1,650 freestyle at 17:35.31. Junior Jeff Engle of Kalamazoo, Michigan (Home School) was ninth at 17:55.47.

Keith won the consolation final in the 100 butterfly with a swim of 50.90 seconds.

Freshman Nick Weigle took first in the consolation final for the 50 freestyle by going 22.02 seconds.

The Flying Dutchmen finished fourth at the six-team event with 371 points.

Hope's next meet is Saturday, January 12 at the Michigan-Illinois Quad hosted by Wheaton College (Illinois).
